After Saul had his transforming encounter with the risen Lord on the road to Damascus, he was taken in his blind state to a house of one of the members of the church in Damascus. Friday. He invites us, as he invited the two disciples, to share with him the story of our lives in all its various hues. If we open ourselves to his presence, as, eventually those two disciples did, the Lord will lift us up. The passage reminds us that we need the Holy Spirit to come to Christ and to grow in our relationship with him, but the Spirit, in turn, needs our contribution, our own good desires and our willingness to respond to the call of others. He's in ALL OF IT. The Lords concern is not just with the community as a whole, but with the individuals who make it up. Mark has a special place among the evangelists because he was the first person to write a gospel. That is how the Lord is present to us. It is to the Eucharist that we too will be lead as we open up our own stories to the Lords story in the Scriptures.
